Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for March 15, 2009

Ok folks, I know it has been some time since reporting on Reelfoot lake but honestly, until the last 3 weeks, there has been nothing to write about.

We have had a MAJOR ICE STORM, low water conditions and weather NOT fit for Crappie or any kind of fishing due to VERY HIGH winds.

The lake is still at least 1 foot above the normal level and maybe an inch or two more. The lake water is pretty good over most areas.

Water temps have been in the lower to mid 40's.

The Crappie bite has really picked up. There are 4 main areas of the lake the bite is good...The Lower Blue Basin, The Upper Blue Basin, Kirby Pocket and some areas behind Samburg. The winds has hampered anyone getting the best of the Crappie but the bite has been good otherwise. Jigs, Jigs tipped with minnows and Berkley Crappie Nibble in the new Gulp juice as well as just minnows. Several 1 to 1 1/2 pounders are being caught. If you want to Crappie fish at Reelfoot, now is the time until mid to late May.

The Bass bite has been slow but I did manage to boat 2 pretty nice bass on Monday fishing a Strike King Premier Plus Spinnerbait in Firetiger color 3 / 8 oz.

The Bass and Crappie bite will continue to get better.

Good Luck til the next report.

Reelfoot Lake water level is low, very low.  I
would say as low as it was this time last year or close.
Now for the fishing, the Crappie bite has begun
to pick up in the Lower Blue Basin area of the lake which is the
southern part of Reelfoot.
As for the Bass, well a little slow and mostly
due to the low water conditions.  I would be willing to say that the
oxygen level is rather low and until we get rainfall ( .88 for September
) the lake will not change.
If you plan to fish or duck hunt on Reelfoot
Lake in the fall and winter months, please have a push pole with you as
well as a cell phone for communications purposes.
Good luck and navigate slowly around Reelfoot at
this time.

Reelfoot Lake Report for August 22, 2008

The Water level at Reelfoot has dropped several inches over the summer,
not as much as this time last year when the lake was at or near a all
time record low water level. The lake is now some 12 to 15 inches below
normal for this time of year. We are getting rain now and hope the what
is left of Tropical Storm Faye will come and park over our area for a
few inches of much needed rainfall.

The Crappie and Bass bites have held up rather well for this time of
year at Reelfoot Lake. Not many folks out fishing but the ones that are
have been catching a few Bass and Crappie.

The Crappie are being caught in the deepest waters of Reelfoot which is
on the Lower Blue Basin area or the south end of the lake fishing 8 ft
to 12 ft deep using jigs.

As for the Bass bite, most of the reports have been in the mid morning
hours using top water baits and spinnerbaits around lilly pads. This is
areas where baitfish are present and then Bass are there to.

Good luck and as the fishing picks up in the fall, so will my reports.

Hope you have had a great summer and the fall season will be good
fishing times for all.
