Unhappy Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Well guys, my mind is spinning faster than the tires on a "hot rod." For the past week I have fallen short on sleep because we have some life altering decisions to make. Last Thursday morning I received an email from my husband with just ten words on it saying that the company he works for had lost their contract and another company had underbid them. That afternoon at 5:15 pm I received a call from him saying he wouldn't be home before 9:00 pm. Fifteen minutes before time for him to leave his office, he received a call telling him to go to the conference room at Mariott Hotel for an important meeting.

He went and an announcement was made that the last day for them to work for the client would be Sept. 16. He was going to be unemployed or have to move after that date. The new contractor copied their ID passes saying they would be in contact with them and offer jobs to as many people as they could. They did not say a word about benefits or what would happen to salaried people and it has not been mentioned all this week.

Monday he saw his name highlighted on a list the CPM, of his current employer, had made up. He came home with a handful of forms to fill out and laid them on my desk and told me to "Read that." I first flipped through them to get an idea of what I was looking at and, included in that packet, was a copy of his resume. One of the forms to be filled out was a questionaire that asked if his Passport was up to date, if he was willing to take redeployment to an international job, if he would work in Australia, South America, or the Middle East. One of the questions asked if he was willing to go "Single Status" meaning that he may have to go into an area where women would be in danger or there were no family living quarters. I may have to stay behind for 3 YEARS. I have kept a stiff upper lip but that is not what I am feeling.

I have always supported him in every job assignment that he has taken but I broke and asked him to apply for stateside work, in the southeast, and see what they would say. If they don't have anything, that means I am going to have to handle building our new house in Alabama, selling this one, and taking care of the move. OMG, been there; done that; and had nightmares for months.

The same day we got the news about his job, my doctors told me they were delaying surgery on my shoulder for another six months because I still have a little further to go before they can do it. No lifting above my head with my left arm; don't over compensate with my right arm.

I have a friend who says, "If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it." I sure am doing a lot of praying for help these days.

Thanks for letting me cry on your computer.

Each morning, as soon as I wake up, and right after I have thanked God for the beautiful day He has given me, I say a little prayer: “God, HELP ME TO REMEMBER that nothing can happen today that You and I together can’t handle."

You see Bug, I have known for a long time that God won’t give me anything that I can’t handle WITH HIS HELP, but it is REMEMBERING THAT that I have trouble with and that is why I stress the HELP ME TO REMEMBER part of the prayer. Since I have been saying this prayer, I remember to ask for His help much faster than I used to and, guess what, He helps me much faster than he used to. Try it!!

The only constant in life is change. Looks like you may be headed for a big one. Here's hoping that it also represents a big opportunity. Prayers sent your way.

ahhh Bugs I am so sorry to hear this. You have been going through so much physical pain and then the disappointment of not having your surgery before and now you have to wait. It does sound like your doctor has your best interests at heart. But now your husbands work. Why is it that when times are tough its when life throws us even more to burden us with? Test of faith? I really dont know the answer to that. But I do know that Jesus and God will help you both get through this and give you the answers you need. Prayers sent that your hubby gets a job in the States for sure. I hear Australia is nice but if I was him I certainly wouldnt go to any dangerous place or where you cant be with him. You have a wonderful marriage and should be together to get through this tough time together. Please dont handle the houses issue on your own as you are not up to that now. What about family and good friends now. God puts these people in our lives to help us get through the hard times. You need them now more than ever. They can help you with selling, packing and building. God Bless you and hubby. Margie
