Re: Jacobson Park Lake in Lexington?

I used to take the kids when they were smaller (pre-creek wading age) to Jacobson. I would walk the banks and flip/pitch a watermelon/orange 1/4 ounce jig with a Zoom watermelon swim chunk around stumps and catch some decent bass. Did catch one by the playground from under the bridge around 4.5 lbs a few years ago. I did put a boat in there once and caught several decent bass on the other side by the golf course on the same jig around stumps. More bass in there than most think.

Well I fished at Jacobson yesterday and barely got a bite. I used several different lures too. I'm sure this time of year doesn't help though. Oh well, I thought it was a nice place for urban Lexington. It was a nice little escape. I might try it again.

Here is some pics of the place for those that have never been.

I was in Lexington for a few years going to school and youre right by a real gem, Elkhorn Creek. Go around to tackle stores and get directions to some spots to wade (I wish I could remember how to explain dirrections to some of the out of the way spots I found to tell you). Zoom super flukes and super fluke jr.s are very good there, white grubs, small crawdad imitations... Its a good smallmouth fishery. Ask about the Stamping Grounds area, that is easy to get to and its where I fished a lot.

Also, if you have a boat there are lakes close by.

Elkhorn should help you survive until youre fortunate enough to escape lexington.

people are going to think I'm lying but I caught some good catfish out of Jacobson once.

Was trying out the john boat + trolling motor and bouncing nightcrawlers along the bottom. caught two night catfish.

Also caught a decent bass. I think 99.9999% of the pressure is within casting distance of the bank and if you get away from the bank you can catch fish.

The cats migrate from stocked Lake Ellerslie under Richmond Road by way of a large culvert.
